My Garden

As I was saying yesterday, My dad has been a great help in making my mom and I a garden! My mom is the most amazing cook I know, so she loves the idea that she will have fresh veggies right outside our backdoor, and I have always wanted a garden myself! This will be our first garden...let alone building/making one ourselves, so bear with us because we are first timers! Yesterday, my dad got the wood and started making our box in a spot we picked out, that gets the right amount of sun each day!

 We (aka my dad) made a 4'x8' garden box and cultivated the area we chose

Today after lunch we moved on to the next step....now like I said this is our first time doing this ha...we did a lot of research online about box gardens, so there are a lot of different ways you can make them. We then laid newspaper over the area to keep the weeds from coming up, but it also allows drainage.

Then place garden/vegetable top soil onto your garden!

 She loves it already:)

A dirty job indeed...especially when you don't use gloves

The finished product! We planted cucumbers, peppers, zucchini, strawberries and watermelon! We bought the plants as seedlings, instead of just planting a seed. This gave us a head start, since this is our first:)  My dad is working on a wire fence to go around it to keep out the rabbits:)
